5 Things to do When You’re Lacking Style Inspiration

Inspiration is one of those things that comes and goes. Sometimes a strike of inspiration will come when you least expect it and you’ll suddenly be filled with so many ideas and so much passion. Which is great and all… but it’s not always convenient to wait for the inspiration to come to you.

Maybe it’s a specific event you have coming up, a job interview, or even just daily outfits & you want to feel like a badass. Whatever the reason, sometimes we know we want to look good but we just don’t have the inspiration to style an outfit that will have the impact we want.

So, what do we do about it? That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out.

I started this blog in part as a way to keep myself motivated to try new styles and brands.

Previously working in retail, & therefore having a discount in one specific store, I kind of stopped shopping in as many places and eventually, I really missed the variation my wardrobe used to have.

But anyway I’m getting off topic.

More recently I’ve been getting back some of the passion once I had to style outfits & decided I’d share some of my top ideas for getting inspired and finding your style.

How to Find Style Inspiration

Blogs

Another reason I started my blog is that for years I’ve loved reading them for inspiration & wanted to be able to inspire others too. Whether you read this blog or any of millions more that are out there, blogs are an amazing place start when looking for inspiration. Personally, I use bloglovin’ for being able to find all the blogs I love in one place. You can follow me on bloglovin here.

Instagram

Instagram is so visual. Personally, I’m all about things being aesthetically pleasing otherwise my brain just switches off.

Having a good scroll through Instagram to spy on what other people are wearing & how, what brands are posting and so on can spark tons of ideas.

That being said, sometimes Instagram can get a little uninspiring when all you see are the same photos from the same people. A bit of that is ok. But to keep it inspiring you want to find people you relate to & also people that are totally different to you – be it skin tone, size, ethnicity. Diversity is so important & a great for staying inspired.

Online shopping

I barely ever used to shop online. I’m so behind the times. Honestly I only really started online shopping in the past few months. Now, I had ordered things here and there but it was a rare occasion. But in my mission to branch out and find new brands I decided online shopping needed to become my best friend. Who wants to limit themselves to just the stores in their town? Which in my case practically two stores!

Now, I had ordered things here and there but it was a rare occasion. But in my mission to branch out and find new brands I decided online shopping needed to become my best friend. Who wants to limit themselves to just the stores in their town? Which in my case practically nothing!

It’s so easy and means even when you’re pushed for time you can browse for inspiration

Magazines

Like actual physical magazines. You know? Photos and words that aren’t on a screen.

Photos and words that aren’t on a screen.

We’re so used to looking at screens these days that sometimes it can be kind of therapeutic to hold content in your hands and turn pages.

The more sources of information the better. Basically, variation is key!

Go Outside

If you thought I’d lost my mind suggesting reading off of paper, you’ll probably think I’m insane for suggesting going outside!

But honestly, people watching is amazing. You might be surprised by the inspiration you can find in your town.

Go to new places, pay attention to your surroundings. The people, the decor, everything.

Even if you don’t see anything that inspires you, you might find the change of scenery sparks an idea of your own!

    • Need to take advantage of Pinterest more. Thanks for the tip, beaut!

  • Girl you are so bomb. Just body, hair, style goals – love it all! Lol, thank you for this post. I’m definitely a person that wears the same thing over and over again on a regular basis, but when the event or inspiration calls, I don’t mind singing a different tune. I usually find inspo from blogs and Pinterest more than anything else. Instagram is a close third.
